At Personal Democracy Forum, 2011, Alaa told me this story of his amazing mom, Laila Suief.  She kept pushing him to the frontlines of the battle for Tahrir –even though he had just arrived from South Africa on a 14 hour flight– so that it wouldn’t just be the children of the poor who fought the thugs and the camels.
